Ms. Vera Addo, the leader of YES-Ghana’s Voices of Youth post 2015 National Consultation, has been named among Africa’s most outstanding women leaders by the MOREMI Initiatives for Women’s Leadership in Africa for 2015.
Ms. Addo was a member of the analysis team that produced the “Youth Voices on a Post-2015 World” report, a Youth Empowerment Synergy (YES-Ghana) project, supervised by Restless Development, London. She was invited, in November 2013, by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, London as a youth speaker on the “role of young people in development”.
Vera, who holds a BA in Sociology from the University of Ghana, Legon is also the founder and CEO of VERADO Foundation, a non-profit organization promoting girl-child education, youth and women’s empowerment, women and child rights, and health awareness in the Western region of Ghana. She is the Youth President at her church, and enjoys spending time with children, in particular the girl-child.
The MILEAD (Moremi Initiative Leadership and Empowerment Development) Fellows Program is a uniquely designed initiative committed to the long-term leadership development and promotion of Africa’s most promising young women leaders. The 2015 MILEAD Fellows represent a truly Pan-African diversity, which features 24 African countries and the Diaspora, bringing highly diverse socio-political backgrounds together and a combination of multi-disciplinary academic and professional experiences and aspirations. Fellows are people deemed to be already actively leading change on pertinent issues at all levels- from entrepreneurship, economic justice and women’s health, to political participation, environmental innovations and gender justice.
Youth Empowerment Synergy (YES-Ghana) is the nation’s foremost and most extensive youth organisation bringing together innovative and energetic young professionals in different capacities who work with relevant stakeholders to lay the foundation for and work towards the promotion of a sustainable and productive future for all young people in Ghana.
